Daily Duties at University Of Minnesota Crookston:

Director the intramural program. Supervise workstudy students. Put budget together, get paper work to workstudy students and make sure they get paid. Promote intramurals and get more students to participate. Stand up for the program in front of the student fee committee. I took a program that was an after thought and turned it into the thing to do for students and the place to be. I hired 12 interns and 20 workstudy students. I had to sell the University on this and make them understand what a great investment this was and how this would help retention and enrollment on campus. I developled a program where I had the workers take ownership in the intramural program. I did this by meeting with all the workers and interns in small groups. I would go around and ask each individual what he/she thought was working and what we needed to be fixed and how should we fix it. I would implement their input into the progam, and the workers would see this and know that is was theirs. Once I established ownership the program really took off. What I focused on with the interns was with conflict resoultion. I trained them to be able flexible each time you step into the work envirnoment. Something is going to go wrong. Things like when a workstudy person didn't show up for work. How to handle a situation that comes up in a team envirnoment where there is a fight or some pushing and shoving. I trained them on how to handle those situations so it didn't get out of control and at the same time there would be a punishment so that everybody knew this type of behavior would not be tolerated. I trained the interns on how to train the workstudy students who were officiating the games, checking in teams, working concessions, handing out equipment, and dealing with spectators who were there to cause trouble as well. I developed a system where the workstudy students would get their time cards in on time and their payment for work was so much more efficient. I spent a lot of time on customer service with the interns. Figuring out ways to make sure students got their teams in the system on time. If they were late how you handle that.
