Daily Duties at Dualism Group:
In 1995 I started my own record label and music marketing company called the Dualism Group. Using an FTP site and PayPal, I accidently created the first online music distribution system. In order to raise capital to fund projects for the record label, I would consult for other labels and perform field marketing campaigns. In 1999, I pivoted the company into a tour management company where I would drive artists around the country to their performances. By 2001, I earned a reputation as a management consultant and began to derive income by writing business plans, securing funding and helping clients open their businesses. In 2007, when I was attending graduate school, I consulted with emerging entrepreneurs as my primary source of income. I would charge my clients for projects such as client assessments, market research engagements, business modeling exercises, marketing strategy development and financial analysis. Once the client had a solid model and plan, I managed my clients project through the funding phase all the way to operation. One client in particular was Robert Simpson of the Back A Yard Corporation. I was able to assist him in expanding his one retail operation into a five restaurant family owned chain.
What they like about Dualism Group:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
