Daily Duties at The Hanover Insurance Group:

Personal Lines Risk Analytics and Underwriting Supervisor. I am in charge of the underwriting and risk assessment for the States of Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois. I am responsible for the bottom line profitability of ~900 million dollar book of business. I mentor and train a group of 8 underwriters and 5 analysts that report to me. I am responsible for cascading the information from our underwriting strategy meetings to the team. Underwriting management, including myself, and product work together to develop go forward strategies based on the historic analytic data available. We break down every characteristic or attribute of a policy and evaluate it propensity to take a loss and then my team works accordingly. I am also responsible for third party vendor relationships from an operations side. I ensure that the data we are receiving is adequate and what we had expected. I also monitor the service levels the vendors have to make sure that we are taking full advantage of the relationship. I also take my analytics work or go alongside one of my analysts to explain a given agencies book of business and provide suggestions as too how changing the "mix" of their book would result in a better loss ratio and therefore better long term profitability for all parties.

What they like about The Hanover Insurance Group:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
