Daily Duties at Oakwood Hospital:
As the chief executive of the students I had to make the schedule each semester to what machine each student should be placed on. At Oakwood there were usually five students at a time. I had to make sure each student was on time at their designated areas. Each student has to sign in and out with me each time they are there. This way we keep a total balance of hours that are needed for them to graduate. Being the CES I had to teach the students how to run the machines along with how to get the patients in the correct alignment for treatment. The students are always supervised while in the room setting up the patients as well as outside at the console. At the end of each rotation(about 2 months) I would evaluate each student and speak with them about their performance. During the last two years in the professional program each student has to show they are capable of treating different parts of the body on their own. Each student has to align the patient up correctly and treat them from the console outside, this is done with my supervision the entire time. I'm inside and outside the entire time watching and overlooking to make sure everything gets done correctly. In May and June myself and the other student supervisors from each hospital interview canadites that have applied to be in the radiation therapy program. There has been up to 60 prospects that apply each year, but only 15 to 20 can be accepted. The interview consists of 25 random questions that me and the other supervisors write. The interview itself can last up to an hour.
What they like about Oakwood Hospital:
Working for a company with an emphasis on social values and helping society is a clear and important priority for you - a critical factor in who you choose to work for. In contrast to other factors, you place an organization's reputation for fairness and concern for the community above most other aspects of the company. As you search for a new job opportunity, it is usually possible to find out if the company is involved in the community and/or if it is addressing problems and issues in society. Pay special attention to non-profit organizations and those specifically involved in social action. Moreover, speaking with current and former employees should enlighten you to perceptions of the fairness of the company's leaders and the treatment of employees.
