Daily Duties at Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Corp.:
Managed 7 Histologists. Scheduled all aspects of Histology and Necropsy for both GLP and Non-GLP studies. Move Coordinator for 2 GLP Histology laboratory moves. I was hired on as a permanent Histologist after the team member that I had replaced returned and another person was also hired on at the same time I was made permanent. The team now consisted of 6 histologists, 1 supervisor and 6 pathologists. As stated below I was still doing all the phases of necropsy and histology, but I was also given the opportunity to update a back log of studies into the “Master Files” that would be used by the Quality Assurance team when the FDA would come to audit us. The back log was several years outdated and I was able to finish updating the Master File in a few months time in which I was given an Encore award. I also created a training manual for the Histology team to use for creating study files for our raw data since all the histologists were doing this in different ways and the QA team felt that this would not look good to the FDA. I worked with my histology supervisor and 2 QA team members to get their input into this training manual. When the manual was approved but the QA team I was then asked by my supervisor to train the other histology team members n using this manual. Histology also use a computer system called PathData in which data was taken form approved protocol and entered into the computer system to be used during necropsy, histology and by the pathologist to enter their diagnosis of the slides. Again I was asked to work with the pathologist and QA team members to create training manual for the histologists to use for entering the data from a protocol. At this time I was also asked to be on a newly formed team with QA and Pathology. I was called a lab link. I was asked to be a liaison between the 2 groups and we (QA and Pathology) met monthly to discuss issues QA had with the pathology team and bring any issues that the pathology team had with QA. At the end of this time frame the supervisor announced that he was retiring and his upper management gave his position to me. This is when I was promoted to Sr. Associate Scientist. I was in charge of 7 Histologists, did all the scheduling of studies for the group and worked closely with the pathologists to create a list of how they wanted their slides to be QC’d by the histology group prior to being delivered to the pathologists.
