Daily Duties at Children's Hospital Of Orange County:

Charge Nurse- Facilitated and coordinated the daily flow of patient care, donors and, staff schedule. Developed a tool to audit charts and goals for the nurses who performed the procedures. Was part of team to develop a tool to identify needs prior to admitting a child for a aphresis theraputic proceedure. Daily checked the work schedule and organized staff to cover the needed assignments for the day. Followed through with the staffes payroll hours. Helped to prevent excessive overtime. Patient Care Coordinator - Coordinated, evaluated, planed and provided care for the oncology/hematology patient that was in need of a therapeutic procedure. Followed through with patients family and staff on the care that was provided. Apheresis Specialty Nurse- valuable at drawing donors for apheresis procedures. Blood Donor Nurse- became therapeutic Apheresis Specialty Nurse - knowledgeable in performing all therapeutic apheresis procedures of: WBC collections, MNC collections, Apheresis collections, RBC depletions, Plasma exchanges, Therapeutic Phlebotomy, and Auto Collections. Apheresis RN A Registered nurse who coordinates, plans, and manages quality care for donors and patients. Maintains knowledge and skill in apheresis and whole blood collection procedures according to FDS, DOH, AABB and hospital policy and procedure. The apehresis staff nurse is accountable for rendering independent care in a variety of therapeutic procedures. Accurately assess and documents all aspects of the blood donor screening and donation process Identify risk factors rendering a donor unsuitable for donation Seeks appropriate resources to include community resources for donor access as required Accurately and safely performs nursing care on both blood donor and patient according to policy and procedure considering age, safety and developmental needs. Follow through on teaching and multidisciplinary team involvement. The Clinical Care Coordinator (CCC) acts independently in coordinating and tracking patient care, and providing discharge planning for patients within an episode of illness. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team, utilizes clinical pathways in the provision of care. The job has 24 hour accountability for assigned patient caseload.
