Daily Duties at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center:
PICC Line/Vascular Access Nurse: Verifies that orders are written. Completion of a theoretical and practical formal educational program and possessing the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the activity safely, and effectively. Capable of patient assessment/screening; safely use of equipment; skilled in insertion/withdrawal techniques; knowledgeable with PICC management strategies; ability to anticipate and recognize potential complications and correct them if need to. Electronically documentation of PICC placement. Capable of assessing a chest radiograph to determine PICC tip placement. Capable of completing a appropriate informed consent. Nursing care responsibilities, including, but not limited to patient assessment, monitoring, medication administration, potential complications, and documentation criteria. Blood Donor Nurse: Interview, conduct, evaluate and document medical history and physical assessment; make decisions regarding community eligibility and donor safety, including decisions on autologous donors, and therapeutic donors/patients. Perform site preparation and venipuncture and discontinue donor units; collect sample tubes. Prepare tubes for transport, and complete documentation. Review medical history cards completed by others for completeness and accuracy; perform quality control procedures and maintain necessary records. Observe donors; provide prevention and management of donor reactions, which may include emergency medication and treatment. Provide health care information to donors. Assist with donor room preparations, prepare and distribute supplies and equipment, perform quality control, and maintain records. Knowledge of State, Federal, AABB, CAP, JACHO, and DOH regulations in determining blood donation eligibility and safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a functional team, integrating medical concepts. Physical Requirements: Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking, frequent bending and stretching. Exposure to blood, body fluid or tissues and risk of exposure to contagious diseases, infections, and accidental needle sticks requiring adherence to universal precautions. Other Practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, and patients.
