Daily Duties at University Of Miami:
As a Senior Radiation Therapist I treated anywhere from 30 to 70 cancer patients a day with Varian linear accelerators to cure or relive patients pain. One of the first things that are done in the morning is QA on each machine to ensure the machine is in range to use, this is done on a daily basis and can take up to an hour from start to finish. From morning to afternoon while the patints are being treated you have to watch several computers to make sure everything is working correctly. For each patient, verification images are taken before treamtent and reviewed by the doctor. As well as treating patients, being the senior therapist I had to train all new employees on the equipment and wokflow of the day. This includes interaction between the doctors, nurses, reception, and other family members.
What they like about University Of Miami:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
