Daily Duties at Dss,Inc:

As a clinical trainer and application support specialist its important for me to support the computer program as questions from the sites come to me on a daily basis. I work on a program called VistA Chemotherapy Manager. This is an electronic chemotherapy ordering application that uses evidenced-based treatment plans. As well as supporting the product, I travel to several locations within the United State to train the staff, usually ten to twenty people at a time on how to use the computer software program called VCM. I train many sites how to use their library of evidence-based treatment plans that are installed. The ordering provider can easily assign treatments to patients that are enrolled in VCM. The orders within the treatment plan can be edited to decrease or increase medications or to add non-chemo medications. This medical program keeps all orders on the patients for reference viewing as well as providing a progress note for each order. I also give the sites flexability of assigning treatments concurrently and enter treatment for patients that have multiple primary malignancies. After the provider adds a treatment I show them how the order looks on a printed preview. These are all electronic so no paper orders are allowed. The printed document will show the treating facility, the patient to be treated, any lab results required, and any pre-hydrations. The drugs will be listed in order of administration. This printed order can also be used by pharmacist and nurses. Therefore when I'm not on the road I'm at the office taking calls from any of the sites that have questions about using the program. The sites put in any questons through the service help desk. When the questions come to me I log them and then call the site to help them resolve their question. This can take anywhere from one day to one month. If it's something that can not be fixed then I escalate the question to the product line manager. Since I'm the one that trains the sites, the questions and concerns always come to me first. Im their person of contact.
