Daily Duties at Northern Tier Career Center:

Adult education, hiring and evaluation of faculty, in-service and training to faculty regarding instructional strategies, test question development, and provide leadership with curriculum development and curriculum evaluation. Developed and implemented major curriculum revision along with subsequent evaluation of the curriculum through in-depth analysis of major concept areas. Our institution student passing rate for NCLEX (Nursing Board Examination) increased from a low of 78% to 100% for the past two years. Developed and maintained a good working relationship between the faculty members along with being a liaison with faculty, staff, students, administrative personnel, high school instructors, and community organizations. Enrollment over the past five years has increased by 28% under my leadership with attrition rates remaining steady. Provided leadership in the development and implementation of a nursing simulation laboratory funded partially through the program and grants I wrote for and received. Evaluate and analyze student applications through pre-admission screening and pre-entrance examination. Prep course development for the high school senior students to assist them in successfully taking our pre-entrance exam. Prepare reports for various organizations such as the federal government (ipeds reports), state reports, financial aid, and our governing body board reports to name a few. I am responsible for the development and over site of the budget for the program along with the yearly calendar and semester assignments to faculty. I work closely with community organizations to promote a working relationship in order to foster employable graduates that meet the needs of the community. I am the lead for our Perkins consortium and have been for the past three years and I have also written and received grants through state and federal sources. I have served on a PA State committee to develop and implement a state wide articulation agreement between vocational education students in the Health Assistant Programs and Practical Nursing Programs. Additionally, I work closely with the secondary instructor, and am a nurse aide trainer for her program. I have many other roles and responsibilities such as maintaining the curriculum book, new faculty orientation, developing and maintaining program policies, and maintaining compliance with our accrediting body.

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
