Daily Duties at General Dynamics Information Technology:
My task was to acquire a team to install and maintain the secure networks for JIEDDO, at two locations. During the course of the project, I was instrumental with the identification of stakeholders, creation of the statement of work (SOW), acquiring the IT support team, and creation of the site’s standard operating procedures (SOP). I also collected requirements, planned and controlled the installation schedule. My work with JIEDDO took them from an empty room to a secure functional accredited SCIF with an Authorization to Occupy (ATO) over 300 persons at one location and 200 persons at another. I received commendations from the government for the successful manage of and transition to the government of an inventory worth $17 million. The site support required the up-time of the network, and the continual operation of workstations and ADP equipment to fall within the parameters of the Service Level Agreement (SLA). I was charged by Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) to keep the network and SCIF within the IA requirements. I additionally had to be available to the Contract Representative (COR) as the point of contact for the JIEDDO site, the POC for the JIEDDO upper management and the project coordinator for additional projects to include an additional SCIF built at a separate location. I was able to maintain the site IA requirements and meet SLA requirements for my tenure there. I managed the daily administrative task of the assigned engineers which required knowledge of the DIA contract, the ISCOM contract, the GDIT contract, GDIT HR policies, the SLA between DIA and JIEDDO. It required teambuilding skills, training, communication and writing skills, scheduling skills, handling difficult stressful situations, and knowledge of when to escalate. I was responsible for evaluations, recommendations for salary increases, recommendations for promotions, termination or reassignment. To complete my work required a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Seibel trouble tracking system, and other proprietary software. I had to make use of my knowledge of PMBOK fundamentals, and ITIL best practices. I remained as the transition manager, once the contract was given to another company.
What they like about General Dynamics Information Technology:
You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
