Daily Duties at Duke University Health System:
Management of 250 employees and a budget of $7M in the areas, admissions, financial counseling, emergency department registration, pre-certification, insurance verification, bed management, patient information, and patient transportation and Valet services. Directed and developed operations to attain operational and financial goals for patient's access to care throughout the continuum. Responsible for transportation, valet parking, bed control, financial counseling, admissions; inpatient and outpatient, customer service representatives and a training department. reported to the Sr COO, hired to make sure all admissions were properly executed from payment through denial process, without any patient complaints and in a timely manner. I started out with responsibility for admissions department, bed control, financial counseling, and scheduling. After 4 months was given responsibility for valet parking, transportation inpatient and outpatient customer service representatives and a training department. I designed and rec'd approval for a training department given I had 250 employees and I was re-organizing those departments. Supervisor positions were created; I managed and built the infrastructure after being given 4 additional departments. I had 2 managers and 6 supervisors and was responsible for staff in 3 different buildings. Worked closely with the emergency room staff after I designed and implemented a transfer referral center to streamline the admissions and MD referrals from outside our hospital. Worked closely with physicians in every department and department leadership. Designed a process for housekeeping and bed control on their communication when beds were needed for patients whether they were coming in from the outside of the organization or moving from within the organization. Met weekly with physician leadership and emergency department director. Developed software to assist in the tracking and reviewed the utilization reports. Developed a training department to train on upgrades in the technology we were using, customer service, complaint management, and training for physician office staff. I conducted training for physicians and their office staff on proper patient coding and insurance requirements.
