Daily Duties at Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Corp.:

Performed all aspects of Histology and Necropsy for GLP Toxicological studies and for Non-GLP Drug Discovery studies. I was originally hired by Johnson and Johnson as a temporary Histologist to replace one that has been called into active duty. The team I worked with consisted of 1 supervisor and 3 other histologists and we worked very closely with 3 pathologists. My everyday duties were: I was given established protocols and then I had to set up tissue jars with labels for the necropsy phase, then set up the cassettes and slides for the histology phase. The tissues were then sampled, processed, embedded and slides were cut on a microtome. The slides were then stained and then sent to a pathologist for reading and diagnosis. When the studies were completed the slides were returned to the lab for archiving and study folders were created with the raw data to complete the study. Most of the studies needed GLP standards and that meant all raw data had to be QC and audited by our Quality Assurance teams. While being temporary I was being trained in all these phases.
