Daily Duties at Sandia National Laboratories:

At Sandia, I used protein interaction assays, molecular and cell based assays, immunoassays, flow cytometry, quantitative RT-PCR, modern high throughput screening assays and bioinformatics to identify druggable targets and biomarkers for emerging infectious diseases. I interfaced with engineers to develop a self-contained microfluidic platform for screening host-pathogen interactions and a microfluidic device that mimics the human lung to investigate tissue level responses to viral, bacterial and drug exposures. I have worked on a number of projects at Sandia and I have demonstrated an ability to learn and implement new skills and to be adaptable to new research disciplines and changing priorities. I collaborated with multiple teams at Sandia to effectively leverage the tools and expertise available in the organization. I was fundamental in establishing on-going collaborations with research groups at other national laboratories and universities, I have mentored fellow researchers, and I contributed to the multiple internal and external grant proposals.

What they like about Sandia National Laboratories:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
