Daily Duties at Black & Veatch Corporation:
As an Owner's Engineer, I was responsible for reading specifications written by other consulting engineering firms and commenting, to the owner, on any discovered technical errors in design. I worked on about ten different projects during this time period. I was given assignments by and reported to a lead owner engineer who administered several projects. On one of the projects I attend a meeting with the owner and their engineer on a proposed electrical power distribution system. I took notes on the two day proceedings and carried meeting information back to Black & Veatch for analysis by other engineers. Power distribution is not my area of expertise, but I was able to take adequate notes for the engineering experts to analyse the results and comment to the owner. Total project duration was about three man-days. On another project the engineer proposed a control system that was not according to Black & Veatch design, however it would work successfully. No comments were required or made. In a typical situation, the specifications written by the owners engineer were technically correct and well written and the only errors found were typing errors. Typo's were marked and sent to the owner.
