Beginning as a fellow in neonatology IN 1973, I was promoted to the staff of the Department of Pediatrics initially as an Assistant Professor IN 1976, then Associate Professor IN 1981 and finally as a Professor of Pediatrics in 1989. From 1981 through 1988 I was Physician in Charge of the Special Care Nursery (i.e. the NICU).
