Daily Duties at Environmental Protection Agency:

Duties and Responsibilities: Perform technical reviews and evaluation of laboratory and field data submitted. Determine whether submission is in accordance with regulatory requirements such as FIFRA, FQPA, CFR, and other legal regulations. Review microbiological and toxicological laboratory data for adequacy and incorporation into health criteria documents, and position or science policy papers. Participate in the approval process of laboratory techniques that is to be deemed acceptable for Agency review. Attend bi-yearly training on current laboratory techniques applicable to regulatory decisions. Participate in AOAC, ASTM, OECD, and CSPA conferences/meetings. Serve as the technical expert on antimicrobial pesticides as they relate to effects on target and non-target microbiological organisms in the laboratory or unknown use conditions. Work across agencies including CDC, FDA, and NIH. Provide technical assistance to State and Federal Agencies. Act as an expert on issues of public health as it relates to emerging and infectious diseases and environmental risk assessments. Evaluate a series of assignments in the area of efficacy evaluation for antimicrobial agents. Participates in design of testing parameters and protocols that guides policy documents. Prepare Standard of Operating Procedures (SOP) for product science branch. Recommend additional studies which will provide data not available (data gaps) as required by regulations or as necessary to clarify existing data gaps with antimicrobial testing. Participates on internal and external panels or working groups which addresses concerns related to FIFRA, CFR, and FDCA. Participate in one global harmonization meetings/discussions concerning environmental protection efforts. Represent the division at meetings with registrants, state and local officials, and other public groups to explain Agency procedures in areas of expertise. Develop and update efficacy guidelines and testing protocols for antimicrobial pesticides, and provide technical and scientific support for the efficacy section of the branch. Review data submitted to support new chemical active ingredients proposed for EPA registration. Apply CFR and FIFRA guideline for review of regulatory submissions. Review quality assurance applied to GLP standard laboratory studies to render it appropriate in accordance with CFR and FIFRA guidelines. Participate in enforcement activities. Perform customer relationship services with registrants and other agencies with concerns of agency policies and guideline. Write efficacy regulatory reviews. Present scientific findings and/or pertinent information in scientific, branch, divisional, and intra divisional meetings.
