Daily Duties at A.M. Haire Manufacturing And Service Corp.:
Bonnie Sturkie was my Supervisor/Jim Helms was the Purchasing Manager whom was Bonnie's Manager/Todd Murphy was the Operations Manager. I started with a desk in a gloomy area. No parts had descriptions or part numbers. Everything was set up and Bonnie knew where it was located. I started following her everywhere she went to get parts for production. I purchased maintenance supplies/product to service vehicles/drill bits/saw blades/Tools that were needed to keep production stable and productive. These commodities were purchased from written Requisitions give to Bonnie/Bonnie would put Vendor and telephone # and quantities to be ordered. I had to assign a purchase order # which was automatically distributed on a manual purchase order tablet. In two months, I had learned all electrical commodities/and all hardware used to assemble doors/windows/and protection burglar alarm systems/safety equipment/chassis harness/pigtails for American and Foreign trucks. Everything was manual with no technology. March of 2000, A.M. Haire invested in a software package called Visual Manufacturing. I was given a implementation Book and was told to study it and would be taking classes twice a week to learn how to set up Part # /Descriptions/Qty's in/Qty's out/Cost Analysis on FIFO. I studied every aspect of Visual Manufacturing and learned that it would help the Company operate at a very high efficiency level if every area of the system was used properly. I started classes and the System Administrator started to spend a lot of time with me. i began to understand the system and what it would produce if used properly. Input was the key to getting solid information from the system. I started doing physical cycle counts on notebook paper and deducting the quantities upon releases to production. Numbers were never true from week to week because people were coming in after 4:00 pm and getting parts. This enabled me to translate this information to my boss and rules were set so no one could come to the stockroom after 4:00. Inventories became consistent and Mr. White/System Administrator for Visual was ready for me to start assigning part numbers and Descriptions with a quantity base. Every new part had a Vendor file which Bonnie kept in a notebook. However, it was more detailed in the system and I did the research to keep all Vendor information. This was so exciting! It took 3 months to built the Vendor base and get all the parts and descriptions with quantities in the system. The next project was location, location, location, in the system so that once the part was keyed in it would tell you everything you needed to know. Location/Min and Max quantities/ lead times for new product/and projected usages monthly. They hired another person to help me allocate and set up location bins for all parts. The configurator was not set up yet because Engineering had it tied up most of the time. We had to physically change inputs and outputs of parts manually. Weekly cycle counts and manual upkeep of all product on hand with reports printed weekly of incoming parts. Once I allocated all inventory with Vendor Information/Part numbers and Descriptions and quantities. Location of all parts with another helper assigned to disperse parts. I am now over two employees with the same management. Requisitions are now being used by all Supervisors and brought to the Stock Room. We fill them in the evening and pass all parts out at 7:00 am in the mornings. Every body has what they need to start their jobs. Traffic is controlled/organizational procedures are working. A system is in place that is user friendly. Mission accomplished! They are talking to me about another project.
