Daily Duties at Mercury Marine:

As Senior CAD Designer I was required to create new concepts for marine environment motor components and assemblies, create new concepts for plant tooling, processes, procedures, and layout. The concepts must make the company more competitive with other manufactures, be safer, cheaper, lead to higher quality products, and give the company an edge over the competition. Create automated and programmed CAD models and drawings, then instruct others on how to use them. Attend teaching conferences on the latest versions of the CAD program. Teach multiple Pro-Engineer modules to other engineers, technicians, and labor personal in a classroom setting. Create drawings to ANSI, ASME, and company requirements with full GD&T where required. Attend regular staff meetings and give presentations on the status of all projects. Become intimately knowledgeable about materials, machine tool functions, casting dies and wax dies, finishing properties, etc, in a high volume industry. I worked in gearing, propellers, and drive systems groups. It is necessary to know about many material properties and the manufacturing process that they were subject to. Also, it is necessary to know about interfaces between materials, finishing and coating, etc, and how they perform in a marine environment and how to design components that were resistive to corrosion and electric material dissipation. I needed to know all intricacies of the product and how they interface with each other and the manufacturing environment. Accurately use revision change notice and design change documentation, and enter then into the authorized release system. Time must be accurately recorded.

What they like about Mercury Marine:

The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.
