Daily Duties at Texas Department Of Public Safety:
We rose before daylight each day and reported to the physical training (PT) field where we participated in various physical conditioning exercises for at least an hour. Once done with PT, we had breakfast then went back to our dorms to prepare for the day. The daily activities included classroom instruction, firearms training, driving instruction, and defensive tactics. Some weeks were longer than others because we also had to do shooting and driving classes at night and in low light. A great portion of the training academy focused on academic work. We had to learn criminal and traffic laws as well as the general operating procedures for the agency. As we neared the end of training there was a test that we all had to pass in order to be certified as law enforcement officers. Once all tests were passed and positions were assigned we graduated from the academy and reported to our respective duty stations.
