Daily Duties at American Electric Power:

The corporate development position I held was focused in the development and acquisition of power generation and related infrastructure facilities in Latin America. My primary responsibility involved serving the Mexican market and the development of assets to serve the California market via export from border facilities in Mexico. This involved determining site locations, fuel supply and transmission deliverability logistics for power generation facilities as well as negotiation of contracts for land, interconnection and power purchase. The position also involved leading the development completion, financing and construction management oversight for a large power generation facility in central Mexico that was the result of the award of an international competitive bid to provide power generation to the Mexican utility. This involved the responsibility of budget and schedule oversight for a 600 MW $450 million dual fuel combined-cycle project in construction with a global EPC contractor. This role resulted in a position transfer to international asset manager as a result of AEP transitioning out of development during the power sector downturn of the time with the CA energy crisis, the collapse of Enron and the events of 9/11 on the markets.

In contrast to other factors, you place an organization's reputation for fairness and concern for the community above most other aspects of the company. As you search for a new job opportunity, it is usually possible to find out if the company is involved in the community and/or if it is addressing problems and issues in society.
