Daily Duties at Various Municipal Police Agencies:

Patrol assigned area to prevent crime, control traffic and arrest criminal violators. Receive information on alleged criminal violations or disturbances from police headquarters and meet with and interview victims, witnesses and suspects to obtain facts and evidence relating to citizen's complaint or allegation. Examine scene of crime to obtain clues and gather and preserve physical evidence such as photographing and dusting for and lifting latent fingerprints. Review files and criminal records to develop leads. Write clear, concise detailed reports on investigative findings for presentation to local District Attorney's office. Respond to and quell disputes involving married couples or domestic partners. Disperse unruly crowds at public gatherings. Monitor motor vehicle traffic to observe violations of motor vehicle regulations and unsafe driving practices and detect stolen vehicles. Issue warnings and citations to motorists in violation of traffic laws. Investigate conditions and causes of motor vehicle accidents. Render first aid at accident scenes and direct and/or reroute traffic around accidents, fires, road hazards, large public events, natural disasters or other disruptions. Receive daily updates on currently wanted suspects, crime trends and "look-outs." File daily activity reports with superior officer. Testify in criminal trails, proceedings and before Grand Juries.
