Daily Duties at Keesler Medical Center, Healthcare Team Training:
Directed the establishment and operation of the Military Health System Patient Safety Program at the MTF level and worked closely with MTF leadership to promote a culture of safety throughout the MTF. Lead the MTF in receiving the Air Force award of “Best Inpatient Facility for Patient Safety” 5 consecutive years. Identified, recommended and aided in the implementation of approximately 70 process improvement initiatives geared toward safe, quality patient care to reduce the risks of preventable medical events. As a result, patient harm events decreased by 70% and near miss events increased by 82%. Expert presented national patient safety initiatives and the impact on the Air Force Patient Safety Program. Astutely administer and managed the day-to-day PSP operations encompassing all aspects of inpatient, ambulatory care, and support functions. Exceptional working relationship with Chief of the Medical Staff, Performance Improvement, Quality Management, Risk Management Directors and department leadership. Facilitated, lead and coordinated departmental and organizational wide RCAs, Proactive Risk Assessments and FMEAs. 100% corrective actions initiated and adhered to. Facilitated approximately 70 organizational-wide process improvements to reduce the risks of preventable medical events. Managed Patient Safety event reporting system to identify systems and process issues that could have or did result in patient harm, lessons learned from these events decreased the likelihood of the event reoccurrence by 92%. Established mechanisms to orient and educate all staff on risk identification, risk assessment and risk control principles and practices, again reducing harm events and increasing near miss events. Developed and maintain professional relationships with over 1800 medical staff members. Referred to as the “go-to-person” on all patient safety and quality/performance improvement issues/questions.
