Daily Duties at Colonial Metals, Inc.:
I was promoted to this position as a separation from the Fine Chemicals Division due to the large effort I put in to generate revenue and grow this part of the division that Executive Management decided to create my own division. I held this position concurrently with the Director of Research & Development position I held since 1999. I had at various points in my 10 year tenure between 4 and 10 direct reports. For around 3-4 years I was also responsible for the technical progress of our subsidiary in the United Kingdom. I was in charge of the Organometallics Division that involved the stewardship of > 300 products in the product catalog that continually grew with the introduction of new products. The revenue of this division grew 10-fold during my 10 years in charge of this division. Involved in the stewardship of these products we performed continuous improvement in the fabrication of these products via process development, scale up and optimization. This position was in charge of facilitating a client’s order for a chemical products that fell under our responsibility and we would supply them with the chemical product on an aggressive time line meeting either the client’s specification or our internal specification. The facilitation just described involves the synthesis, characterization, packaging and shipment of the required product. I also interacted with the Business Development team to provide economic costing of the products to be supplied, both current and projected. I also designed and had built the kilo scale laboratory and was also in charge of procuring equipment and supplies for this laboratory. This laboratory has produced in excess of $15M of fabrication in the manufacture of our chemical products.
