Daily Duties at Seattle Genetics, Inc.:
As a member of the Cell Culture group my primary responsibilities are feed and media optimization and bench-scale bioreactor process development. - Perform fed-batch studies for optimization of feed and media. - Responsible for operation of bioreactors at multiple scales for purpose of optimizing cell culture conditions as well as generating material for other groups. - Expansion of cell cultures from frozen vials to larger scale using shake flasks and wave bags to support bioreactor operations. - Evaluated potential alternative instrumentation for measuring metabolites in cell culture. - Additional duties include monitoring the incubators, ViCell units, and Cedex. - Analyze results of experiments in electronic notebooks. Write detailed technical reports and present findings at meetings. - Served on Health and Safety Committee in 2007. - Provided technical support for process validation (PV) campaign. Led or second contributor for numerous bioreactor and shake flask studies supporting PV or qualification of raw materials for the commercial campaign. - Served as Project Manager for two GMP cell banks at contract manufacturing organization (CMO). - Led a multi-cell line bioreactor run. Worked with cell line development group closely during this run. - Performed a media screening study to support commercial manufacturing which showed that a specific lot of raw material was causing filtration issues. - Performed follow-up studies under pressure which confirmed the finding. The observation of the filtration issue prevented impacting timelines and drug supply. - Populated the technical report database for inspection activities. - Troubleshoot issues at CMOs by performing scale-down experiments. - Acted as a point person for legal during freedom to operate inquires. - Required collaboration with outside vendors to obtain information. - Produced cell banks that will supply cells for process development studies. - Helped with the process monitoring database. Defined data fields for entry and also helped with spot verification to ensure accuracy.
