Daily Duties at Sherwin Williams:
- Reengineer the finish good bar coding system used to apply bar code labels on cartons and installed the system in eight plants and two warehouses– efforts reduced costs 27% for the applicator units and yielded a more efficient system. The previous system had proprietary hardware, which deprived the company from negotiating with other resellers or manufactures of similar applicator units. Redesigning the system eliminated the need for the proprietary hardware, and opened the door for other manufacturers to participate throughout the bidding process. This system was installed in nine (9) manufacturing plants and three (3) outsourcing company own warehouses. - Reduced spending by 35 – 40% for raw materials by consolidating manufacturing site's buying power of supplies. During the reengineering of the finish good bar coding system, it became evident that the plants were paying different prices for the same type of raw materials; that was the catalyst for the consolidation of the raw materials use in the finish goods bar coding system. - Negotiated three-year contract for supplies use in the finish goods bar coding system for nine years. The three-year contract was decided because one year was too short; two years did not emphasize the importance of building relationships. Three years made the statement that the company is serious about forming partnership/relationship. Installed the first vision system; the challenge was to identify a system to distinguished different cap orifices. Bar coding was more expensive. A vision system proved effective and more economical Wrote a program to simplify Ford’s Motor company accounts payable for scratch-fix touch up paint Worked as a Regional Y2K Coordinator for six plants—1999
What they like about Sherwin Williams:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
