Daily Duties at Day Kimball Hospital/Healthcare:

Assess/triage urgent and emergent healthcare conditions based on assessment. Perform emergency medical procedures, such as basic cardiac life support (BLS), and advanced cardiac support (ACLS), and other condition stabilizing interventions, such as IV starts, and blood draws. Set up and operate cardiac monitor, oxygen delivery via different delivery methods per patient needs. Also set up for invasive procedures and monitor invasive equipment such as mechanical ventilators, catheters and central lines. Manage patients’ pain and monitor response; Administering medications IV, injection, orally, through G-Tube, inhalation, rectally or by other methods; including non-pharmacological interventions and changing care plans according to patients response. Document data related to patients’ care including assessment and frequent assessments results, interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes and continue to assess and document. Insert Nasogastric tubes per MD orders and check placement via auscultation, pulling back of gastric content, and etc…also insertion on Foley catheters as needed to monitor output/observe for blood in urine. When needed moderate/conscious sedation is given and pre/post op care is given to the patient. Assess and diagnose acute or chronic conditions that could result in rapid physiological deterioration or life threatening instability. Evaluate patients laboratory data, vital signs, and how the patient feels to determine if emergency intervention is needed and keep MD informed at all times. Delegate tasks to others that are under a RN licensure. Also assess and at times take responsibilities of the psychiatric and the intoxicated patients’ until they see crisis in the morning. This includes, but not limited to suicidal and homicidal patients’ that need help and also patients’ that are feeling depressed and anxious. These are patients’ of all ages that are in a psychiatric crisis. Discuss illness and treatments with patient and family members, and be a great patient advocate. Always communicate with other staff and MD in charge of patient care. Working as a team is the most important part of nursing! You have to have good communication skills with all your staff members, including your physicians’, but most importantly you have to be the best patient advocate and have great communication skills with your patient and make sure they understand everything, and also there family.
