Daily Duties at Pediatric Services Of America (Psa):
Delivering care of coordination of quality patient care in compliance with MD orders. Administering care to pediatric patients who may have a g-tube, a tracheotomy and ventilator dependent. May consist of one or all of the above for a full 8 hour shift. Observe and assesses patient condition and care needs continuously. Assess patient head to toe at beginning and end of each shift. Reports any changes to supervisor and have open communication with others involved in patient care including family. Takes appropriate action based on assessment, emergency and also any change in condition (again reporting to supervisor). Appropriately respond to physically and psychologically to emergency situations in the home and/or during transport. Develops, implements and updates nursing care plans. Provides direct, hands-on care to assigned patient such as giving personal care, tracheotomy cleaning, g-tube cleaning, suctioning, tracheotomy changes and ventilator circuit changes. Documents assessments, nursing actions, response and communication. Accepts responsibility for personal and professional accountability and professional development, including maintenance of required training and personnel credentials. Orientating new nurses upon request, supervises and teaches other nursing personnel. Educates the patient and family regarding the disease process, self-care techniques, and prevention strategies, and in meeting nursing and related needs. Documents every change and interaction with patient, monitor ventilators and all other equipment patients may have. Administer medication per physician orders via G-tube and orally. Troubleshoot any mechanical monitors patient may have such as ventilators, (which must be checked every hour) humidification if ordered, O2 sat machines, suctioning, and pumps (for g-tubes).
