Daily Duties at Saint Louis Public Schools:

Public School Teacher responsible primarily for two functions: (1) Teaching special needs high schoolers in a self-contained classroom, and (2) Providing support for special needs students that take regular high school curricula. In the first role I was responsible for creating curriculum and teaching mild to moderately mentally retarded students, along with some emotionally disordered, and behaviorally disordered students. In addition to classroom instructions of these students, I was also responsible for editing individualized education profiles (IEPs) which track these students’ progress in the special education system. I was responsible for tracking goals created by previous teachers as well as instituting new goals in concert with parents, the student, and myself. In my second role, I would join Physics or Chemistry classes as an in-class special education teacher responsible for ensuring that special needs students had adequate understanding of what was being taught by the primary teacher. These classes mixed both special needs and general student populations.
