Daily Duties at Washington State Department Of Transportation:
Hired to Assist P.E. with closing out a contract for the improvements on State Route 405/90. The State was at odds with the General Contractor that preformed the work and many extras which the G.C had billed were in question by the State. My responsibilities were to work with staff to review the contract/specifications/billings/payments/quality control log/ and many other contract procedures. I used Primavera Contract Manager, Microsoft Excel, Word, and the States "DOS" accounting system to do my review. Through the course of our review we were able to determine that there were some payments made by the State which were not accounted for by the G.C. This information was used by the States review board during the negotiation with the Contractor during settlement of the case.
What they like about Washington State Department Of Transportation:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
