Daily Duties at W. P. Carey Inc. :

On a day-to-day basis, I managed all incoming correspondence (mainly phone and email) for an Investor Relations Team of three professionals for a global investment firm with $15 billion in assets under management and reported directly to the Director of Investor Relations. I monitored all phone calls, analyzed and reported trends to senior management and crafted communications in print and e-mail to address financial advisors' and investors' concerns. Through weekly meetings to address key topics and issues I was able to ensure all Investor Relations team members were apprised of any account specific issues and company changes. By doing so, my team was always prepared and able to effectively communicate all account information to a network of 150,000 investors and 50,000 financial advisors. This training also applied to our record management vendor, DST Systems, Inc., where I would meet with management and their phone team on a quarterly and ad-hoc basis to ensure all parties understood any company changes and would work with management to help craft effective and cohesive messaging for all team members. In addition to managing my team, I responsible for resolving any complex issues with investors and financial advisors. Many of these situations were escalated to senior management and required extra attention, mediation and finesse to resolve. Most cases involved working with an outside record keeper to quickly identify any account errors, dissect the breakdown either in processing or communication and efficiently resolving in a matter that was both satisfactory to investors/advisors and within the company's compliance requirements. By doing so, I was able to salvage relationships with financial advisors and investors that were integral to the company's sales team or investor base. Specifically I was involved in two liquidation events for the firm, I was integral in the "behind the scenes" events: account merging, testing to ensure all vendors applied information correctly, drafting, proofing and printing all investor and advisor communications, checks and stock information for accuracy. I was also very involved in changing transfer agents for W. P. Carey Phoenix Transfer, Inc. to DST Systems Inc. In this project I was responsible for all communications to investors and advisors detailing the upcoming changes and how they would affect client and investor accounts, drafting and completion of all print and e-mail communications giving specific timelines, what to expect and any changes in business development and production. Myself and my team were also integral in all data checks to ensure information was accurately transferred from one firm to the next. I worked hand-in-hand with the Operations Manager and Executive Director of Investor Relations on all business plan development and procedures. Once all procedures were planned, drafted and approved, I was responsible for ensuring all Investor Relations team members and sales team members were aware and knowledgeable of all procedures. As the Investor Relations Manager, I was also responsible for the training of the IR and sales teams on all new systems once fully converted to DST Systems, Inc. On an annual basis, I was responsible for the dispersion and communication of company materials in relation to the Annual Stockholder's meeting. I worked hand-in-hand with the Executive Director of Investor Relations to develop an effective plan for the distribution of all materials to investors and financial advisors. I was solely responsible for managing the voting process to ensure quorum for all of W. P. Carey's series of real estate investment trusts. This was accomplished by developing a close working relationship with an outside solicitation firm to monitor on daily basis all incoming votes and developing a plan to ensure quorum was met prior to the Annual Meeting of Stockholders.

What they like about W. P. Carey Inc. :

The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.
