Daily Duties at Ameri Corps Msu Cor Ps:

Through the Morehead State University AmeriCorps program my responsibilities were to improve the academic and behavioral problems of poor Appalachian children. I tutored and mentored students with academic and behavioral problems. However, I was responsible for planning school dances, other events, etc. I solicited local businesses for contributions for special events. I wrote several public service announcements for the local paper announcing events and concerns of the Morgan County Middle School. I built displays for events. I was charged to send each parent or guardian a satisfaction questionnaire regarding the functioning of the Middle School. I compiled the numbers and reported the statistics with standard error. I was often called to assist the drama and music classes. I activated and help to upkeep the homework hotline which was a success. I had to keep reports on my assigned children to record their progress or lack their of. I was also responsible for obtaining clothes for children if they needed them. I also was responsible to make home visits to families that were extremely poor and establish a relationship with them to let them know that their voices should be heard about their concerns also. This was the most rewarding area of this stipend volunteer position. I was paid $250 a month for forty hours. Of course we did get a modest educational reward on completion. I worked two other jobs during this period as to survive.
