Daily Duties at Panama City Urological Center:

As Medical Director, I was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Department of Radiation Oncology and was accountable for planning, organizing and directing the Department to ensure that quality patient care was provided and that the financial integrity of the Department was maintained. I ensured compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as all policies and procedures set forth by the Governing Board and Medical Staff, and by those required by Joint Commission standards. I was responsible for creating an environment and culture that enabled the Department to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals, conveying the hospital mission to all staff, holding staff accountable for performance, motivating staff to improve performance, recognizing and rewarding performance, and being responsible for the operation of measurement, assessment and improvement of the Department's performance. Responsibilities also included delivering excellent medical care to cancer patients by using cutting edge technology and equipment and leading a team of motivated and experienced staff including: 2 Dosimetrists, one Medical Physicist, 4 Radiation Therapists, 2 support staff and one Departmental Administrator. Excellent care was delivered to the patients by making sure the daily quality assurance radiation readings on the treatment machines were accurate and that patients were scheduled in a timely manner. I reviewed all of the daily treatment set-ups and verification scans and films to ensure the accuracy of the radiation treatment fields. As Medical Director, I was responsible to the President of our company for organization and coordination of the clinical functions which were fundamental to the conduct of the Department of Radiation Oncology's operations. I periodically met with the President of our company and with the CEO of the hospital to discuss how we could improve the cancer center in regards to developing medical practice delivery. I reviewed Budgets and expenses and approved purchases for the Department. I reviewed statistics on referral patterns and instituted plans to increase referrals.
