Daily Duties at University Of South Florida:
• Developed a state of the art technology for wastewater treatment and energy recovery from waste using an anaerobic membrane bioreactor process. This work has been published in the doctoral dissertation titled “Sequential Anaerobic and Algal Membrane Bioreactor (A2MBR) System for Sustainable Sanitation and Resource Recovery from Domestic Wastewater” (481 downloads since December 2011). • Procured $5000 in funding and led a multi-disciplinary engineering team to investigate the feasibility of cultivating algae for biofuel from a local wastewater treatment plant (Tampa, FL). This investigation led to the development of a patent pending technology for algal biofuel production from sewage using gas-lift algal photo bioreactors (Gl-APBR). • Designed, constructed and operated several bench and pilot scale wastewater treatment systems including anaerobic MBRs treating domestic wastewater and landfill leachate, algal photo-bioreactors and algal MBRs. • Worked as an assistant teacher in undergraduate and graduate courses including Membrane Technology, Environmental Biotechnology, Green Infrastructure for Sustainable Communities, Water Quality and Treatment and Introduction to Graphic Design. Developed curriculum and class materials. • Trained and supervised 10+ undergraduate and graduate students in their design skills and engineering proficiency.
What they like about University Of South Florida:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
