Daily Duties at De Vry University:
I was competing against 100+ students when I took on the task of senior project. Each student came from different disciplines from the school. My team consisted of an accountant who dealt with financial matters for the project, a business marketing person who dealt with all things when dealing with marketing of the product, and I had an assistant who helped me with different parts of the SDLC for the project which included all of the development for the front and backend of the application as well documentation of the entire project. Development consisted of C#, SQL, dot Net and other tools like MS Visio, MS Project, and MS Office. The sponsor had a background in the financial industry, especially in security when dealing with banks. The security was to make sure that the banks were following organizational policies as well as laws and regulations. It was also utilized for pattern findings such as money laundering as well as other financial crimes links like funding terrorism. The idea was to build a platform that had a user input data on the web side and that data was to be maintained in a database; once this was met the application became a testing platform. The organization was able to create different tests, document those test and create a baseline for further testing. This project became a production application built on my work and is being utilized for the financial industry. We followed the system development life cycle of a typical development project. The team and the sponsor had 2-4 meeting a week to establish requirements and I begin to model the ideas by using MS Visio and MS Publisher, creating a visual format followed by documenting the requirements. When the sponsor felt satisfied, I begin laying out the foundation for the front end of the application using a combination of HTML, CSS, and dot.net. The foundation was multi-tiered and multi-functional in that each web page had a dashboard theme that let an organization create tests and audits to meet its’ policies and regulations. The backend was a RDBMS such as SQL. The model that I created in Visual Studio as well as Visio progressed throughout the project. At the end of the project we had a working platform for the front end as well a fully functionally database. I had to document the code as well create documentation of the entire project so when the sponsor gave our project to a production team the transfer would be seamless. I spent approxiametaly 1500 hours working on this project which lasted 6 months. This was on top of my classwork from school, and family life.
What they like about De Vry University:
Working for a company with an emphasis on social values and helping society is a clear and important priority for you - a critical factor in who you choose to work for. In contrast to other factors, you place an organization's reputation for fairness and concern for the community above most other aspects of the company. As you search for a new job opportunity, it is usually possible to find out if the company is involved in the community and/or if it is addressing problems and issues in society. Pay special attention to non-profit organizations and those specifically involved in social action. Moreover, speaking with current and former employees should enlighten you to perceptions of the fairness of the company's leaders and the treatment of employees.
