Daily Duties at North Georgia Heart Center:

I was asked to join the research department by the manager and physicians due to my knowledge in cardiology. The other RN's did not have any hospital experience in cardiology. I am responsible for all hospital based studies, which includes over 15 studies. I am in the catheterization lab and in the OR. I have to know each protocol for the study, inclusion/exclusion criteria, review the entire chart, labs, EKG's and other noninvasive study results. I consent all patients for the studies, teach patients and families, being available in lab or Operating Room for each study to document all data required. After procedure, assuring all orders are written per study protocol, following patients throughout their hospital stay, teaching and follow up appointments. Enter all data in many different data bases in the computer. Have all information organized and up to date for Study Coordinator from the sponsor and possibly the FDA. Making appointments for all follow ups, including follow up cardiac catheterizations, and following the patients for up to 5 years.
