Daily Duties at Gts Duratek :

• Project Manager for Training Environmental Safety & Health for managing Health Physics exam preparation short courses (<40 hrs), responsible for lesson plan development, technical editing lesson material and course manual, classroom instruction and personal professional development. Provided health physics consultant on a contract basis. Provided support for client interface, writing proposals and course marketing. o Edited the Certified Health Physics (CHP) Part II exam preparation course materials to correct typographical and technical errors from existing materials to professional standards for presentation to students. o Edited and upgraded the Certified Health Physics Part II exam materials by adding new problems with solutions to enhance the course and increase the teaching effectiveness of the course. o Developed new multiple-choice questions for National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT) and CHP Part I courses for GTS Duratek’s exam preparation software program. o Edited NRRPT course materials to increase course effectiveness o Instructed NRRPT exam preparation course with an 80% pass rate o Instructed CHP Part II preparation course with a 60% pass rate o Assisted Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) identifying regulatory oversight costs for fixed bit contracts. Audited decommissioning reports for Los Alamos National Laboratory • Identified technical errors detecting Am-241 and using alpha scaling factors for other hard to detect nuclides. Generated a technical report highlighting problems, footnoted with references. o Provided health physics support to GTS Duratek’s uranium vitrification plant at Department of Energy’s Savannah River Facility, including: • Conducting oral boards exams for health physics technicians • Performing dose calculations on vitrified uranium waster streams • Procuring health physics equipment • Reviewing health physics & health and safety procedures • Facility walk-downs for regulatory health physics compliance issues o Developed and/or instructed the following short courses for specific clients: • Developed and instructed DOE’s Technical Qualifications Program for the Radiation Protection Qualification Standard • Edited the script and instructed Nuclear Physics Fundamentals, a four-hour short course on live interactive TV via DOE’s closed circuit satellite network. • Developed and instructed Health Physics for Waste Management Professionals for LANL • Developed and instructed Fundamentals of Photon Shielding. • Instructed nuclear initial site access and requalification (SAT/SART) training for Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) inspectors o Audited Lucent Technologies broad scope license for regulatory compliance and business issues. Provided management with a report outlining program shortfalls.
