Daily Duties at Gaston Memorial Hospital:
Report directly to Nurse Manager. Daily operations of multiple critical care units, co-ordinate schedules and staffing needs based on the assessment of patient acutiy and unit specific needs. organized staffing of multiple acute care units, staff evaluations, staff development and training, resource management, team building, participated in multidisciplinary rounds with physicians, measured quality outcomes, bed placement of critical care patients, chart audits, incident report follow up, and I stayed active at the patient bedside by also being a staff nurse as needed in the acute care units. I managed and recovered post open heart surgery patients, trauma surgical intensive care patients, and acute cardiac patients. Working along side of the acute care nurse helped me serve as a mentor, and role model while earning the respect of my peers by being a hands on manager and able to jump in and do what they could do. I also was able to evaluate educational needs and developed and taught critical care classes which included reading EKG's, basic arrhythmia recognition, hemodynamic monitoring and the assessment of the critical care patient. I also taught assessment and transportation of the critical care patient to the community paramedics, and developed a Congestive Heart Failure training module for step down nurses.
