Daily Duties at First Energy :

Duties included: ALARA Supervisor during the final 7 months of the Davis Besse 0350 restart (Regulatory required shutdown) • Assisted the Davis Besse nuclear plant restart as part of the Radiation Protection (RP) recovery team following loss of radiological material, personal contaminations and high dose. • Managed a staff of 4 personnel, 3 ALARA engineers and 1 ALARA scheduler including performance reviews and coaching. • RP recovery team successes include: o No major radiological events, no loss of control of radioactive material o The RP team reduced personal contaminations from over 600 (outage) in 2003 to station best 11 in 2004 by increased RP diligence and higher decontamination standards imposed by the RP recovery management team o Controlled and managed dose as plant needs required to support restart o Assisted the RP staff in writing new RP procedures o Developed a challenging five-year ALARA Plan to move Davis Besse from last among PWRs, to top quartile o Created and developed a single page electronic template using the plant information (PI) system to display plant radiological conditions through the plant IT network allowing RP staff to assess plant radiological conditions for both normal operations and emergency situations, which reduced RP staff workload • Participant in the Emergency Response Organization as radiation protection manager (RPM).
