Daily Duties at Exelon Nuclear :

Duties Included: Managing the dosimetry program at Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station. • Evaluated the dosimetry program procedures against NRC and Exelon radiation protection program requirements, reviewed dosimetry program procedures for technical accuracy and NRC compliance, evaluated external dosimetry results from external personnel monitoring devices (TLDs), performed external/internal dose calculations, dose discrepancies, performed the annual bioassay review and the annual occupational exposure dose report to the NRC. • Created the following process to document alpha and other hard to detect nuclides were less than 10% of total internal dose (IAW 10CFR20). o Obtained smears form various plant locations/systems, counted smear on various plant instruments and sent for detailed isotopic analysis o Created excel spreadsheets from federal report #11, that calculated the limiting internal dose condition for ingestion and inhalation for both committed effective dose equivalent (CEDE) and committed dose equivalent (CDE) for plant nuclides • Entered smear data into the spreadsheets from the in-house instrument readings and laboratory results and calculated the smear internal dose potential • Scaled internal dose ratios from easy to detect Co-60 to hard to detect alpha nuclides. Total internal dose could then be scaled from whole body counts using Co-60, making internal dose assessment less prone to whole counting errors for hard to detect nuclides • Spreadsheet calculated the plant instrument efficiencies (RM-14 & PM-7) • Spreadsheet calculated the internal dose at the PM-7 alarm set point of (generally 1 to 2 mrem) o This process verify instrument efficiencies from current plant isotopics, verified the plant program assumptions for limiting nuclides of concern, also served as part of the an annual bioassay review • Participating in the corrective action process by writing self-identified investigation reports of program deficiencies, responding to corrective actions and NRC and INPO audit findings. • Instructor qualified as subject matter expert (SME) for EP dose assessment requalification training and testing • Researched the intermediate spent fuel storage (ISFSI) pad for external and internal dose pathways and impacts on the Offsite Dose Calculation Manual (ODCM). Pathways evaluated included, external direct line of sight, external indirect shine & scatter, external airborne immersion, internal ingestion and inhalation via air, and water pathways. Evaluated the impacts of natural and man-made background radiation on environmental TLDs. • Performed tritium dose calculations for occupational and environmental releases.
