Responsibilities At Riverside General Hospital as Perinatal / Medical Social worker The social worker provides social services to Ob/Gyn unit, newborn nursery, labor / delivery and diabetic clinic (4 hours per week). Cases include all pregnant prison mothers deliver at RGH, drug moms, teen moms, adoptions, stillbirths, psychiatric moms, domestic violence non compliant diabetic moms Cases involve highly emotionally charged situations of grief, loss, disappointments. Two main categories for discharge planning: baby is not discharged home to mother and requires mother's signature on release document or CPS involvement (prison mother, drug mother, adoptions, stillbirths, psychiatric cases) and cases where mother is discharged home with baby (teens, some drug mothers, other minor cases). Keep daily statistics on cases. Work with a cultural diversity female population of child bearing years, young adults, teenagers (13 19). Collaborate with other agencies. Participate in staff meetings, provide in-services to staff. Document on baby's and mother's chart. The social worker keeps daily statistics of cases., writes hospital policy on how to handle newborn nursery problem babies; teach in services to staff once a month, provide in-service to pregnant prison moms at California Institution for Women, (CIW) state prison regarding different baby placement options. Collaborate with agencies.
