Daily Duties at Hendrick Medical Center:

Assigned to 20 bed long-term post-acute unit. General nursing duties include: Provide direct patient care including assessments, medications, ostomy care, various treatments, initiate and monitor IV therapies (antibiotics, blood products, fluids, etc), assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), and strive to improve patient outcomes through encouragement, support, and education. Typically 5 or 6 patients per nurse. As the charge nurse, responsibilities include: Supervise floor nurses and aides to ensure optimal unit functioning and quality patient care, make staff shift assignments, communicate with other hospital departments, monitor and report patient status changes and communicate with physicians, document and ensure initiation of physician orders, prepare end of shift reports, and resolve staff, family, and patient issues. Often, due to short staffing, I was required to take a full patient load in addition to charge nurse duties. In those situations, my time management skills and the ability to multi-task proved extremely beneficial.

What they like about Hendrick Medical Center:

Working for a company with an emphasis on social values and helping society is a clear and important priority for you - a critical factor in who you choose to work for. In contrast to other factors, you place an organization's reputation for fairness and concern for the community above most other aspects of the company. As you search for a new job opportunity, it is usually possible to find out if the company is involved in the community and/or if it is addressing problems and issues in society. Pay special attention to non-profit organizations and those specifically involved in social action. Moreover, speaking with current and former employees should enlighten you to perceptions of the fairness of the company's leaders and the treatment of employees.
