Daily Duties at Chicago Public Schools:
Nursing care:Provides and or delgates direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to student and staff including nursing assessment, identifying health problems, making referrals fro diagnosis and treatment, provide follow - up and evaluation, and maintaining apporiate documentaion. to injured students, carrying out the physican orders to student with the following medical conditions: Asthma, Diabetes, Seizures. Follows up on Homebound students needing related healthcare services. Administres medication with apporiate documentaion and monitors student behavior and reactions to the administration of medication. Assists childern to accept or adjust to physical, emotional or health linitations. Identify students with major health problems requiring acute, episodic and or rountine care. Provides counseling and follow - up services to students with disabilties as delinated in the IEP / 504. Provides interventions in time of school crisis, e.g., death, sucide, traumatic events. Provides health counseling to parents of special education students. Communication: Initiates contact and acts as a liasion among the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of school community. Assesses and monitors students' health needs, interprets results of medical findings and tests used to measure student health status to students, parents, community groups and other interested parties.Initiates referrals to appropriate resources and follows up and or co-manges the students health needs. Coordinates activities of local school concerned with communicable disease regulations. Monitors nursing services provided by LPN and / or agency nurses. Maintains communication with administrators, teachers,other school personnel, and parents / guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of students. Organization: Maintains record of student /staff encounters and documents on individual health records.. Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies.Special Education: Prepares health assessments on students referred for Full Initial Evaluation ( FIE), triennial muti - disciplinary conferences ( MDC) and initial/annual Individulaized Education Plan ( IEP). Carries out stuent goals and objectives identified in the IEP/ 504. Professional Development: Participates as an active member of the school community,representing health / wellness. Prepared 75 comprehemsive reports summarizing medical records, and preapred reports in order for student to obtain classroom accommodations recommended by physician. Professional development provided to faculty to educate on current medical trends which are imperative for student learning environment. Interviewed pertinent parties to obtain current medical status, treatments and future plans of care. Obtained written consent to access medical records this streamlined process and prevented vioProfiently trained IMPACT ( program used by Chicago Public School for documentation, accessing student’s records and creating educational plans.lation with HIPAA( Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
