Daily Duties at Areva:

Prepare and review engineering calculations and reports to support the licensing of fuel and ensure thermal-hydraulic performance of irradiated fuel assemblies operating in several commercial nuclear reactors. Perform analyses for the development of new thermal hydraulic analysis codes and engineering methods to support approval by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  Shearon Harris Plant lead – Responsible for preparing and managing 1500 man-hours ($150,000) budget, resource allocation for 5 -8 engineers, and schedule for reload campaigns.  Provided oversight for fuel thermal-hydraulic engineering projects.  Served as liaison between fuel thermal-hydraulic group, other engineering teams, management, and customers.  Provided training to approximately 20 customers and mentored employees on fuel thermal-hydraulic engineering methods.  Created software packages that reduced dependence on manual calculations and enhanced automation; saved approximately 150 hours per project across 7 projects.  Supported the development and approval of new fuel designs, generating comprehensive engineering analyses, presentations, and final reports.  Automated and streamlined calculations and processes to ensure that projects were delivered on schedule and within budget.  Obtained customer approval for project plans containing work scopes and budget estimates.  Interfaced with customers and regulatory authorities to obtain approval of fuel designs.  GAIA Lead – Responsible with coordinating with European and American engineering departments on spearheading new fuel design in the US.  Initiated guideline development for entire unit o Resolved recurring engineering issues o Standardization of analysis across unit o Training tool for new employees
