Animal Science Core Group Expertise with in vivo procedures using advanced technology and tools to innovate and enable in vivo support • Scheduled and participated in in vivo experiments across departments • Tested compounds in support of PK ADME, Pharmacology and Research Toxicology efforts • Promoted innovative in vivo techniques /skills • Trained and managed verification of animal use handling proficiencies and certifications • Harmonized study protocols, data/sample recording across Animal Core, Pharmacology, DMPK, and Biology to keep tailored to each different experiment Behavior / Functional Assessment for AD and PD models Set-up and implemented the following behavioral assays in support of target validation, compound screening and selection: • Mouse cognition paradigms: Spontaneous Alternation, Contextual Fear Conditioning, Novel Object Recognition • Mouse and rat sensorimotor paradigms: Locomotor Activity, Challenge Beam, Pole Test, Rotarod, Cylinder Task, Rotometer Provided in vivo biology support in animal models to enable efforts in Autoimmune program • Induction and treatment of Experimental Autoimmune Encephalitis (EAE) in rat and guinea pig • Histological analysis: scoring methods of spinal cords for EAE model (H&E, Weil, and Iba-1, CD4, CD8, etc.) • Pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic experiments in rats, guinea pigs, and mice • Assisted in radioactive studies to support CNS homing efforts • Served on IACUC reviewing animal care and use protocols Conducted research in Analgesia program to validate novel neuropathic and inflammatory pain targets • Spared Nerve Injury and Chung model surgeries • Inflammatory Pain Models (Complete Freund’s Adjuvant and Carrageenan) • Mechanical von Frey Testing and Thermal Hyperalgesia (Hargreaves Method)
