Daily Duties at Electrochem/Greatbatch:
New Busines Development for Portable Medical Segment, Pricing, Contract Negotiations, Engineering and Quality liaison, Account Management and product development. My role at Electrochem was to sell portable, rechargeable battery solutions, to medical device manufacturers. I dealt with Lithium Ion, NiCd, NiMh, Sealed Lead Acid and Alkaline chemistries. I attended medical device trade shows, walked for the floor extensively and ran the booth to meet companies that have a design need for battery solutions for their device design. These batteries were used for back up or primary power of a medical device. Budgetary pricing was provided for prototype and through the qualification phase of development. The development phase lasted through several qualification phases, and correspondingly FDA approval for the customer and the new battery design. I sought to secure a blanket PO for the entire life of the product. Doing this initially meant securing an NDA from Senior Management, getting the design, gathering budgetary pricing from engineering, and building a prototype that is qualified with the engineering staff. My role was to move the various pieces through the various functions of the business; legal, pricing, engineering, procurement, and manufacturing. I also aided the customer relationship through the various manufacturing phases of push outs, pull ins, and phase outs of legacy products with an eye to replacement, newer technology. I was also the quality liaison between the customer and the quality department when quality issues arose. Time management was key. I covered the entire US and I had fifteen customers with a $15M portfolio. I made bonus each quarter that I worked with Electrochem by meeting revenue targets. I worked closely with my own internal inside sales person to actively serve the day to day manufacturing issues, like returns, QC issues. I developed technical summits with the engineers from my key customers to introduce our new technology center in Raynham, MA. I also led each of my customers, to visit our new facility to medically qualify our processes for transfer build to a different facility. Older facility was in NJ.
What they like about Electrochem/Greatbatch:
You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
