Daily Duties at University Of Az School Of Medicine:

I was hired to assist with the Dean's mandate to revamp the entire 4 yr med student curriculum. I reported to Medical Education Director. Since this mandate was all encompassing (4 yrs all at once), I did not have a specific job description, as no plan was enacted at the time of my hire. As a result, I spoke with various staff and clinical faculty to determine in what ways I could assist in this process. Over time, I became involved in faculty development and helping them teach in varied ways (as opposed to the traditional didactic method used); I designed, implemented; assessedt and evaluated students' assessment of the curricular changes, relaying this information to administration and clinical faculty; I conducted similar types of surveys and evaluation of clinical faculty's perception of the changes and their satisfaction; I participated in bi-montly meetings related to curricular content that should be included and excluded; I participated in sessions with the Phoenix campus that was beginning with the same curriculum, but with approx 25 students vs Tucson's 100+ students; and, I was responsible for conducting the 3rd year clinical med students' Interdisciplinary Curriculum, which included nursing and pharmacology students. I selected the topics, sought out speakers from the community, worked with the speakers on content and its delivery to make it interactive (5x/year). Essentially, I was hired with no immediate responsibilities and had to 'find my way,' developing responsibilities for myself. I worked with one other employee on matters of faculty development and training. I worked independently with the faculty and student surveys, yet worked with the MD clinical faculty following my presentations of the data to discuss changes, respond to their questions, etc.

What they like about University Of Az School Of Medicine:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
