Daily Duties at Mic Check:

Collaborated with my co founder on creating a non profit for spoken word poetry. Put up the initial capital and wrote out the application to get non profit status from the IRS. I made sure that the application and the rules and regulations of mic check were compliant with the IRS requirement for non- profit status. Responsible with holding weekly workshops and readings to help encourage writers to write poetry. I wrote letters and submitted recorded videos of spoken word poetry to local businesses for donations to help support our organization. I would help coordinate events that promoted other local charities in the area. Help come up with fund raising ideas to put together a poetry festival in college station. I was responsible with coming up with the budget for our festival and making sure that we did not overspend, as well as coordinate responsibility between the other co founder and myself on when we announce the festival, the day we should have it, the rules of the festival, and the logistics. I still hold an advisory position with the festival we hold each year but no longer see to the day to day activities with the workshops, readings, and fundraising events. I also filed the taxes for the first two years of mic checks activities.
