Daily Duties at Mission Essential Personal (Contractor):

I listened to audio recordings in Pashto or Dari/Farsi and using my prior computer skills which I developed while working in engineering firms and real estate companies, I type in English using Microsoft Word. Other times I listened to live intercepts, often with severe background noise, and simultaneously gave a verbal English translation while a U.S. serviceman transcribed. I frequently recommend a translation be given a more urgent processing up the chain of command based on immediacy and/or degree of threat to NATO forces. Our surveillance territory covers virtually all of Afghanistan, from which I exercised my ability to translate the numerous sub-dialects of Pashto. My on-duty hours fluctuated from day-light hours to night shift all of which involved extensive hours per day and a minimum 6 days per week.
