Daily Duties at Florida Dept Of Corrections:

During the course of working in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) I was recruited by the Office of Institutions and offered a promotion to work as an assistant to the Deputy Secretary of Institutions. My workload is complex and dynamic. Each morning begins with a status report delivered before the 9am executive staff meeting on all facilities in the state, focusing on major focal concerns (disturbances, uses of force, staff injury, etc). I assist in the management of the department’s cell phone contract. Specifically, I assist in the fiscal and regulatory oversight of the spreadsheets we obtain from our cell phone providers. Oversee the translation of data that is available at our facilities and at central office. Assist and oversee the annual improvement of the departments Emergency Management Application, a web-based software used to coordinate response. Test new versions for bugs and work with developers to meet institutional need. Monitor the application throughout the day for any emergencies that require Central Office response. I continue to serve as Planning Chief during emergency activations (hurricanes, wildfires, disturbances, etc). Manage training & assist staff in the use of emergency management software. Act as liaison with the FL State Emergency Operations Team & FEMA. Conduct training for staff on the use of the emergency management application and answer daily questions on its use.

What they like about Florida Dept Of Corrections:

In contrast to other factors, you place an organization's reputation for fairness and concern for the community above most other aspects of the company. As you search for a new job opportunity, it is usually possible to find out if the company is involved in the community and/or if it is addressing problems and issues in society.
